2015 Pinot Noir, Sangiacomo Vineyards
Winemaker’s Notes
The 2015 season followed a warm, dry winter with early bud break. During bloom, cool winds and brief weather swings led to shatter and low yields, concentrating flavors in smaller clusters. Summer was largely moderate near the coast, buffered by morning fog and brisk nights, allowing us to pick at optimal ripeness with excellent acidity and phenolic balance.
In the glass, a ruby-violet hue sets the tone. The nose leads with wild strawberry and red currant, joined by pomegranate and a lift of citrus oil. Subtle vanillin and a touch of baking spice frame the fruit without dominating, while hints of dried rose and orange pekoe suggest layered complexity.
The palate is supple and finely etched. Core flavors of strawberry, red currant, and cherry skin glide across a mineral line, as cool-climate acidity energizes the mid-palate. Classic Sonoma Coast earth—forest floor, loam, and mid-slope mushroom—threads through delicate notes of black tea and clove, guiding the wine toward a long, persistent finish where red fruit, spice, and savory tones linger in harmony.
Poised and expressive now, the 2015 Sangiacomo Pinot Noir will deepen over the next 5–7 years, developing secondary hints of truffle, tobacco, and dried herb while retaining its coastal freshness.
