2024 ZaZa Zin, Old Vine Zinfandel
Vineyard Profile
Stokes Vineyard, located in the growing area of Lodi in San Joaquin County, consistently impresses with its rich and intense old-vine Zinfandel. The combination of vineyard management and the site’s unique character brings out this grape’s richness, intensity, and subtle spice notes.
Tasting Notes
Thanks to warm days and cool nights throughout the season, the 2024 vintage ripened evenly and with intensity. These conditions helped maintain acidity while promoting full flavor development, resulting in a Zinfandel that is both approachable and cellar-worthy.
The wine exhibits a vibrant garnet color in the glass. Aromas of red cherry, blackberry, and wild bramble instantly arise, complemented by background notes of vanilla bean, black licorice, and warm spices. A hint of rose petal and earth hints at the vineyard’s signature character.
On the palate, it begins with lush dark berries and ripe cherries, complemented by hints of fig, espresso, and cocoa. The tannins are well-structured yet silky, providing balance to the wine’s full-bodied richness. A backbone of bright acidity persists through the finish, adding to its complexity.
The 2024 ZaZa Zin is best enjoyed after decanting—give it an hour or two, and you’ll be rewarded with more depth and harmony. With its smooth texture, layered fruit, and spice, this wine is perfect for the table now and will continue to develop beautifully over the next 7 to 10 years.
This vintage is a true reflection of Lodi’s potential and the enduring legacy of Stokes Vineyard. Enjoy it alongside grilled meats, smoked dishes, or savory autumn fare.
